Man fined BND14,240 for smuggling cigarettes

The Magistrate’s Court yesterday ordered a Malaysian man to settle a BND14,240 fine, after he pleaded guilty to the possession of smuggled cigarettes.

Mohd Al Laziem bin Abdullah, 22, will have to serve 13 months’ jail in default of payment.

The Customs Prosecuting Officer informed Magistrate Mohammad Marzuqi bin Sabtu that the defendant was caught by Customs examiners on arrival in his car at the Kuala Lurah Control Post at 7.25pm on February 20, 2020 with 21 cartons of undeclared cigarettes.
