Make every sector more efficient, effective: Minister

Amid uncertainties in global oil prices and economy and the COVID-19 outbreak that has impacted global industries, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud at the 16th Legislative Council (LegCo) session yesterday said that the government continues to allocate substantial budget allocation for its entire machinery to ensure that programmes for the needs of people and others are being implemented.

In the motion of thanks for His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s titah at the opening of the first meeting of the 16th LegCo session, he urged everyone to take the responsibility in making every sector more efficient and effective.

“Especially in the government sector, regulations and other initiatives must be implemented by all agencies through fiscal consolidation, apart from evaluating the need for other methods such as corporatisation and public-private sector partnership, and this must be supported by all parties through a whole of nation approach,” he added.

He also said that as the main machinery to development, the government will continuously strengthen and enhance good governance in all levels and sectors, to ensure the service quality to the public are the best, efficient and effective, and most importantly, he said is “people-friendly”, making it easy for the public to conduct any business.

He also said that prudence in spending is also a priority, focussing on value for money expenditures that are beneficial and profitable for the state and the people in the short and long term.
