Local society donates to charities, China

To’kong China Society donated over BND45,000 to eight local charitable organisations during a ceremony at Emperor’s Court Restaurant, Manggis last Saturday night.

Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Haji Mohd Hasnan bin Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan was the guest of honour.

Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam Yu Hong, district officers, senior government officers and representatives of charitable organisations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and committee members of To‘kong China Society were present.

Chairman of the To’kong China Society Lee Eng Ching and Deputy Chairman Tiah Eng Beng gave speeches to mark the opening of the ceremony.

The chairman said the society allocated BND20,200 to frontline healthcare workers in China to help handle COVID-19.

The outbreak is also the reason the society postponed its annual prize presentation to top student achievers usually held at Darussalam Hall, Chung Hwa Middle School Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB).

Other recipients of the donation are Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans (DANA) (BND2,000), Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam (BND2,000), Brunei-Muara District Orphans Fund (BND2,000), Belait District Orphans Fund (BND2,000), Tutong District Orphans Fund (BND2,000), Temburong District Orphans Fund (BND2,000), Chung Hwa Middle School BSB (BND10,800) and Old Folks‘ Home, Seria (BND1,000).

The donations were presented by the chairman and deputy chairman.
