Local jailed for keeping stolen goods

Local Mohammad Hanafi bin Haji Bagol who pleaded guilty to hiding stolen propery, a charge under Section 414 Penal Code Chapter 22 was ordered to serve eight months of prison term at the Maraburong Prison starting yesterday by the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate’s Court.

According to the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), Berakas Police Station personnel detained the 37-year-old man in connection with possessing stolen property after a report was lodged of four rims and one water jet missing from a house in Jalan Pasir Berakas.

Investigations led to police personnel finding that the suspect bought a water jet from a man believed responsible for the theft in Jalan Pasir Berakas. Despite knowing that the item was a stolen property, the suspect intended to resell it for a profit.

The case was revealed by Crime and Traffic Investigative Officer of Berakas Police Station P/Insp Nur Iffah Nabilah binti Rosli @ Dessy Susanty binti Rosli yesterday.

The RBPF reminded the public that it is an offence to conspire or be involved in hiding stolen property.
