The Labour Department and the Brunei-Muara District Office conducted a joint raid codenamed Operasi Bersepadu Sanggah 49/2020 on a staff house in Kampong Lambak recently.
The foreign workers residing at the house were suspected of conducting metalworking and woodworking projects for a company, under conditions which violated the Labour Department’s Foreign Workers Licence under Section 86 of the Employment Order 2009. Investigations into the case are still ongoing.
In its statement, Labour Department urged employers to declare the address of their businesses projects and the housing address of their employees. Failure to do so is an offence under Section 87 of the Employment Order 2009, and offenders will be handed a fine of BND3,000 under Section 148, or imprisonment of not more than one year, or both.
