Members of the Legislative Council yesterday delivered their motion of vote of thanks to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, for his presence and titah at the opening ceremony of the first meeting of the 16th Legislative Council session on Monday.
Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Putera Maharaja Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Ghani bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Dewa Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Rahim delivered his motion of vote of thanks on the titah of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on increasing job opportunities and tackling unemployment issues.
Yang Berhormat recommended the implementation of a more practical approach to attract jobseekers, especially youth to retain their interest and love towards the field of work they are in by providing better incentives such as a more suitable and attractive service scheme which includes a higher salary.
Yang Berhormat said His Majesty reminded all government sectors and civil servants to work with integrity, trust and transparency as well as to always uphold the Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) philosophy as the national concept and action platform for the benefit of the nation.
Yang Berhormat Haji Emran bin Haji Sabtu emphasised His Majesty’s titah on the establishment of the Temburong District Development Authority (AKDT) to generate economic activities and improve the quality of life for the citizens and residents in the district.
He also touched on the bridge linking the Brunei-Muara District and Temburong District that will boost the tourism industry and also see economic development in the near future. He hoped that the relevant agencies and the AKDT Secretariat will ensure the smooth-sailing of the implementation of the project based on the specified period.
“I was made to understand that several projects have been identified in making the Temburong District as the main eco-tourism destination by focussing on several areas to be developed within the district including Labu, Pekan Bangar, Batang Duri and Ulu Temburong,” said Yang Berhormat Haji Emran.
Meanwhile, Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Mohamed bin Pengiran Haji Osman @ Othman emphasised on the responsibilities of the Legislative Council members as representatives and core leadership in their areas on producing strategies needed for the development and achievement on the functions for which they are responsible. “The Legislative Council meeting is the strategic vessel for thinking and debating matters that the people and country need by thorough thinking and research supported by valid and accurate facts,” he said.
Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Mohamed also touched on the government’s significant milestone in 2019 in the telecommunication sector that brought a change in the economic landscape towards digitalisation and the Fourth Industrial Revolution through the establishment of Unified National Networks Sdn Bhd (UNN) that is fully owned by the government.
Yang Berhormat reminded that His Majesty’s titah touched on various matters that needed to be taken into account and implemented together which would help realise the nation’s aspirations included in Brunei Vision 2035.
