The Operation ‘B’ Branch of the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) tackled grass and forest fires in several peat locations last Sunday until yesterday.
The incidents occurred at KM 10 Mumong Highway – Seria Bypass adjacent to the Panaga 2000 National Housing Scheme, KM 11-12 Seria Highway – Mumong Bypass adjacent to DST Tower in Seria, near the Anduki Norada junction near to the U-turn at Lumut-Seria Bypass Highway, KM21-22 Seria Lumut Bypass Highway and the Badas Pipeline area near the Lumut Bypass Highway bridge.
Several government and private agencies provided assistance including Brunei Shell Petroleum Fire and Emergency Response, RBPF personnel of Belait District Branch, water tanks from the Public Works Department (JKR) of Belait District and bulldozer assistance from a contract under the JKR Belait Branch.
The number of emergency calls reported on grass and forest fires received by the Fire and Rescue Department from January until March 25 was 555, causing damage to 126.25 hectares of land equivalent to 722 football fields.
The FRD informed that public that any reports of forest fires can be made through 995 and reports of open burning can be made to the Darussalam hotline at 123.
