A 40-year-old permanent resident was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday for theft and attempted theft.
Lim Wee Phang was convicted upon his guilty plea of committing theft and attempted theft at a warehouse at the Lambak Kanan Industrial Site.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Sabrina binti Haji Mahmud’s facts of the case stated that on the night of March 18, 2020, the defendant drove his car to the warehouse, parked outside the gate, climbed over the gate and stole three boxes containing 12 packets of coconut cream.
The following day, a warehouse employee discovered that the three boxes were missing.
He informed the manager, who instructed him to check the CCTV footage. They discovered the defendant had stolen the three boxes of coconut cream from outside the warehouse. Employees were able to identify the defendant as a former employee.
Sometime between March 22 and 23, the defendant struck again, this time taking 12 boxes of the coconut cream.
At 11pm, an employee observing the CCTV feed monitor saw the defendant entering the warehouse, and alerted his co-workers. They observed the defendant picking up three coconut cream boxes.
They detained him and lodged a police report, resulting in the defendant’s arrest. Police investigations revealed the defendant admitted to having sold the items to a convenience store.
