Despite global economic challenges and the emergence of the COVID-19 that has impacted the country’s revenue, the country made achievements in year 2019 under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
The government is still able to carry out various initiatives in terms of infrastructure and policies.
The matter was deliberated by Special Adviser to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Bakti Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa bin Pehin Datu Perdana Manteri Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Ibrahim during the second day of the 16th Legislative Council yesterday.
Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Bakti Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa elaborated that deliberations and queries raised in the meeting should focus on relevant and strategic issues towards national development and related to Supply Bill deliberation, planning policies and initiatives carried out by the government so that it will be more well-organised and directed.
Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Bakti Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa said citizens and residents of the county should be grateful and are fortunate for the aid and subsidies facilitated by the government while they enjoy facilities and services fully funded by the Government including education and health.
“As the nation benefits from these facilities, we must support government initiatives and portray undivided loyalty towards the monarch, nation and religion.”
With the rising issue on COVID-19, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Bakti Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa advised the public to practice preventive measures.
The government through the Ministry of Health will continue to monitor and inform the public on any development of this communicable disease in line with the guidelines set by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Touching on youth development, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Bakti Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa urged the youth in the country to uphold His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s titah to actively put their efforts in developing themselves and build their own characters as well as potential.
Youth were advised to seize opportunities by actively getting involved in development, employment and entrepreneurship programmes so they can act as catalysts towards the growth of the business sector in the country.
Youth are regarded as the country’s assets and human resources while the government carried out a number of initiatives such as the establishment of the Manpower Planning and Employment Council (MPEC) that serves as medium in tackling the unemployment issues in more effective and directed ways, he noted.
