Call for ministries to watch public expenditure

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah urged ministries to be mindful when it comes to public expenditure.

In his wrap-up speech on the final day of the 16th Legislative Council (LegCo) Meeting yesterday, the minister said the Ministry of Finance and Economy will continue to monitor its fiscal position and spend on programmes that are sustainable while calling on other ministries to do the same.

He reiterated the titah by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at the opening of LegCo on Monday, in which the monarch noted the impact of the COVID-19 spread on the economic growth worldwide and the global demand for oil and gas.
