The Ministry of Education (MoE) refers to the letter ‘Allowance not on par with higher education institutions’ by BPTV Scholar, published in the Opinion page of the Borneo Bulletin on February 29.
The ministry thanks the writer and through the Scholarship Section, would like to inform that the issue on the amount of monthly allowance received by students under the Technical and Vocational Education Scholarship Scheme (BPTV) was raised by another writer and published in the Opinion Page of the Borneo Bulletin on December 18, 2019.
The ministry’s response to the issue raised was published on January 1, 2020.
The ministry wishes to re-iterate that one of the main objectives of BPTV is to offer financial support to eligible students to study in local private institutions.
Upon receiving the BPTV scholarship, the ministry will pay for all tuition fees, registration fees and examination fees; and provide travel allowance (Elaun Perjalanan) of BND45 per month, which is a standard rate for students studying ‘A’ Level up to Diploma level in Brunei Darussalam.
Additionally, the ministry would like to inform that BPTV is an initiative by the Government to assist students with three ‘O’ Level Credits or lower and did not get an offer to study at the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), and hence supporting them to continue their studies in the local private institutions.
The ministry regrets in the delay of payment of the travel allowance. In this regard, the MoE would like to remind future BPTV applicants to submit all required and relevant documents to the Scholarship Section to avoid such delay.
The ministry welcomes the writer and members of the public to directly contact representatives from the Scholarship Section, Ministry of Education at +673 238 0019 or email at [email protected] for inquiries and information regarding BPTV.
