Marching with pride on National Day

Patriotic spirit filled Bandar Seri Begawan as the nation rejoiced for the country’s 36th National Day Celebrations yesterday.

Teams wore their colours proudly. Some donned custom-made uniforms in show of unity providing a professional, polished appearance for the auspicious day.

Leading producer of oil and gas, Brunei Shell Petroleum along with Brunei Shell Marketing came in full-force with some 200 contingent representing the hardworking man and women in the sector. The teams were led by Managing Director of BSP Dr Ceri Powell and Managing Director of Brunei Shell Marketing Company Muhammad Norshafiee bin Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil.

Since its inception 90 years ago, the BSP has been the nation’s leading producer of oil and gas for domestic energy use and exports.

Meanwhile, Brunei Shell Marketing, established 60 years ago, markets and supplies oil and lubricant products for transport and equipment purposes.

Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd was represented by 100 strong men and women wearing green Jongsarat which proved to be a crowd favourite. Public as well as tourists were seen snapping photos of the striking uniform worn by the employees.

Brunei Gas Carrier contingent marches during the National Day celebrations

“It’s so great to see so many people out here celebrating Brunei Darussalam’s National Day and it makes me proud that I get to be a part of such a special day. Happy 36th National Day Brunei Darussalam!,” said Senior General Manager at the Brunei LNG Plant Haji Mohd Jaafar Haji Awang Bakar.

Brunei LNG is currently the oldest running commercial LNG plant in the world – that in 50 years after its establishment, Brunei LNG remains steadfast in its commitment to support Brunei Vision 2035 and has set up long term strategies and goals to increase local Bruneians in key positions, enhancing competences and local business participation.

Meanwhile, some 60 employees from Brunei Gas Carrier (BGC) made up of both office and seafarers participated in this year’s celebrations.

A major part of the nation’s marine industry is reflected in their blue-ish designed uniform signifying both a marine and MIB concept.

Deputy Managing Director Pengiran Shamhary Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha said, “National Day is a period of celebration for what Brunei has achieved and also gives an aspiration in what we can achieve for the future of Brunei. On behalf of Brunei Gas Carriers, we would like to wish Brunei Darussalam a Happy National Day and may Allah the Almighty grant continuous peace and prosperity under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.”
