Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) yesterday launched the ‘BIBD Connects Pop-Up Market: A Community Outreach’ event at the newly refurbished BIBD Connects location in Kampong Lambak Kanan.

Deputy Managing Director of BIBD Hajah Noraini binti Haji Sulaiman presided over the launch by unveiling a nine-metre wall mural illustrating BIBD’s vision of ‘Connecting the Community’.

The custom wall was the work of local graphic design and illustration company, Guerrilla Artchitects Studio.

The ‘BIBD Connects Pop-Up Market: A Community Outreach’ event brings together local entrepreneurs and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), including BIBDSEED participants, muallafpreneurs under the Islamic Da’wah Centre (PDI) and Zakat recipients under the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB).

Members of the public will also have the opportunity to support local products from the 1K1P (One Village, One Product) initiative under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA).

Under the theme of ‘Perkasa @ Connects’, the event aims to empower the underprivileged by providing a platform for them to offer their goods and services.

It is also aligned with BIBD’s strategy to promote the ease of doing business and enhance opportunities for local MSMEs.

The newly refurbished BIBD Connects in Kampong Lambak Kanan, which was first officiated in 2018, aims to bridge community, entrepreneurship and banking. The modular, two-floor unit houses a drive-thru ATM, dining space and three local MSMEs: Majestic Wings, New Isma Jaya Restaurant and Table Talk Cafe.

Apart from providing a space to encourage MSMEs, BIBD also hopes that the venue will be used as a platform to promote local creative arts.

As part of the ‘Perkasa @ Connects’ event, members of the public are also welcome to attend ‘Night to Connect’ hosted by BruHaha Comedy Brunei today. There will also be family-friendly Movie Nights every evening throughout the event.

Along with the pop-up market, the Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre (PJSC) will also be organising a World Cancer Awareness Day exhibition. Members of the public are invited to register for the Walk, Run and Cycle event held in conjunction with World Cancer Day 2020. The event, scheduled for February 9, will feature a 3km Fun Run, an 11km competitive run and a 10km cycle route.

BIBD also held its monthly prize presentation yesterday, its second since Aspirasi 2 was launched last November. The prizes were handed to the 35 recipients by BIBD Head of Product Engineering Department, Retail Banking Group Wan Hefnie bin Haji Hamidon.
