Fostering ASEAN solidarity

The Information Department of the Prime Minister’s Office, through the International Affairs Unit, as the ASEAN-COCI Secretariat for the Subcommittee on Information (SCI) held ‘Get To Know ASEAN’ at Menglait Secondary School yesterday.

The programme is one of the ongoing efforts of the Information Department in injecting the spirit of patriotism and solidarity (ASEAN-ness) among students in coherent understanding of ASEAN’s functions and goals, while strengthening the Information Department’s relationship with the community, especially the students in Brunei Darussalam.

Some 300 students and teachers attended the talk. Also present was the Principal of the school Osman bin Rajab.

Acting Information Officer as the Head of the International Affairs Unit of the Information Department Hajah Noorhijrah binti Haji Idris delivered the talk.

Among the objectives of ‘Get To Know ASEAN’ is to disseminate ASEAN-related information to secondary school students in the country as they play an important role in shaping the country’s direction.

It also intends to increase the awareness and knowledge of students about ASEAN country members.

The briefing also instilled awareness and fostered a sense of belonging among the students as an ASEAN community, in line with the ASEAN motto: ‘One Vision, One Identity, One Community’.
