Flags lowered as National Day celebration ends

The giant-sized national flag at the open area of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex was lowered yesterday, in a ceremony marking the conclusion of the 36th National Day celebration.

It also marks the conclusion of the flying of the national flag on roads, government premises, private sectors and residences nationwide.

Deputy Minister of Energy Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw was the guest of honour.

The national anthem was sung by the choir group made up of 36 male and 36 female students from Berakas Secondary School accompanied by the Royal Brunei Police Force Band followed by the lowering of the giant-sized national flag.

The ceremony concluded with the recitation of Doa Selamat by Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque Imam Mohd Hasnal bin Haji Mohammad.

Co-chairpersons of the hoisting and lowering of the giant-sized national flag, distribution of mini table flags and Semarak Pengibaran Bendera Programme working committees as well as executive working committees, Legislative Council (LegCo) members, permanent secretaries, deputy permanent secretaries, senior government officers, uniformed organisations, non-government organisations and members of the public were also present.

Meanwhile, in the Belait District, the ceremony was held at the Menara Cendera Kenangan, Kuala Belait.

Belait District Officer Ramlee bin Haji Jamudin was present.

LegCo members Yang Berhormat Haji Abdul Hamid bin Haji Mumin, Penghulu of Mukim Liang; and Yang Berhormat Hanapi bin Mohd Siput, Acting Penghulu of Mukim Labi 1; as well as mukim penghulu, village heads, members of the Mukim and Village Consultative Council (MPMK), as well as representatives from several association and agencies were also present.

The ceremony began with the marching of the flag-bearers comprising personnel from the Royal Brunei Police Force followed by the singing of the national anthem led by the choir group from Perdana Wazir Secondary School, Kuala Belait. It proceeded with the lowering of the national flag.

The event concluded with the recitation of Doa Selamat by Pekan Seria Mosque Bilal Mustaqim bin Haji Mustafa.
