Eight teams compete in badminton championship

The National Badminton Team League Championship organised by the Brunei Darussalam National Badminton Association with the cooperation of the Department of Youth and Sports was officially launched at the Youth Centre in the capital yesterday.

Eight teams will vie for top honours namely Bolkiah Mixed Groups, Red Falcon, MS ABDB, Menglait Mavericks, Menglait Stingers, Onjatu, T2A and RHTS.

The competition, which concludes on April 12, will be contested in a round-robin format and each team will play seven games across seven separate sessions including yesterday.

The participants will return for the second round of matches on February 28 with additional games twice in March (1st and 8th) and three times in April (5th, 10th and 12th).

The inaugural tournament will see five doubles’ categories being contested including 21 years and below, veterans aged 50 and above, two men’s doubles and one women’s doubles. Each team comprises 15 players including one manager and one head coach.

The match will be played in a best-of-five with each winner to be awarded three points for a single victory.

The tournament aims to strengthen ties among players and to serve as a platform for potential players to compete in regional or international tournaments such as Sukma Games and Arafura Games.
