Datastream Digital Sdn Bhd (DST) launched its very own Innovation Lab, InnoLab, during an event at DST’s headquarters in Jalan Tungku Link yesterday in its bid to spawn innovation among individuals, the youth, businesses and organisations.

Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof was the guest of honour.

Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Nik Hafimi binti Abdul Haadii was present.

Chief Executive Officer of DST Radin Sufri bin Radin Basiuni highlighted that the initiative is geared to contribute to the society, through access to the InnoLab to nurture creativity and putting it into practice.

“Aligned with the vision of the Digital Economy Masterplan 2025, we have set up InnoLab with its sole purpose built to inspire innovation,” he said.

“DST believes that innovation is not just about the use of technology, but it is the transformation of an individual’s knowledge to create a new product or service which can be useful for the society. With the right mindset and approach, DST believes that an individual’s dream can be realised,” the telco said in a press release.

Through this initiative, DST is introducing ‘[email protected]’ that specifically caters for students, businesses and government bodies.

Through [email protected]: Catalyst, DST together with their academic partner, Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) and their entrepreneurship partner, DARe (Darussalam Enterprise) provides students with the chance to be exposed to opportunities of entrepreneurship. The InnoLab will provide a platform for the students to cultivate their own creations to develop new and innovative products and services.

The [email protected]: Innovate or Get Left Behind programme will introduce businesses and the government agencies to the fundamentals of innovation by raising awareness on the needs of innovation, and identifying effective strategies to create, cultivate and enhance innovation-focussed cultures which will then encourage growth.

The [email protected]: Market Access, will provide businesses with a ‘go-to-market’ programme which consist of education, expertise and distribution channels. This programme will give support to the businesses to reach local and international markets and also spur growth.

In [email protected]: Industry 4.0, the programme is designed to support the government and businesses to understand the strategic, commercial and technical aspects of new technologies, the potential impact on ‘business-as-usual’ and also the sustainability of the company.

[email protected]: Innovate with Government meanwhile allows government bodies to utilise innovative methodologies and frameworks which can assist them in identifying the key problems and issues that they are most likely to face and they will also be able to co-develop and set up innovative solutions.

Prior to this initiative, DST had partnered with Google Developers Group last November 2019 to host the annual DevFest Brunei at DST Headquarters. Developers nationwide had convened to help realise the Sultanate’s digital transformation by enhancing human capital and their skills, with over 100 participants in the one-day event. DST had also participated in UTB’s Technopreneurship Student Pitch Fest in the same month.

With the launch of the InnoLab, DST will be addressing two key areas; Innovation in Digital Technologies, and Manpower and Talent Development. “The InnoLab will be the start of a wonderful journey and opportunity in creating and cultivating innovation in all forms. DST believes this will aid in creating new opportunities and solutions to ultimately inspire the communities in Brunei towards the vision of the Digital Economy Masterplan 2025,” the company added in a press release.
