Thirteen individuals including four locals and a permanent resident were slapped with a compound fine of BND100 each by personnel of Law Enforcement Unit of the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department for violating the Section 12(1)(a) of the Minor Offences Act of disposing cigarette butts in the capital.
The offenders are Bruneians Ali Arafaat Rosli, Mohammad Faris bin Haslan, Norazmi bin Idris and Norizal bin Zulkifli, permanent resident Mohammad Shafee bin Yunus, Indonesians Deden Hermawan, Faozi, Tri Suminto and Saharudin; Bangladeshis Almas Ali, Ridon Late Abdul Kashem and Mohammad Robbe Hossain and Filipino Ronnie Oumecha Mahaldot.
Members of the public and business premises are reminded not to dispose rubbish and cigarette butts in public areas.
The offenders are to settle the compound fine within seven days at the third floor of the BSB Municipal Department. Failure to do so, the case will be brought to court and will result in a BND1,000 fine or a month’s imprisonment, for the first convicted offence.
A fine of BND3,000 and a prison term of up to three months will be given for subsequent offences.
