Brunei players aim for solid performance at Johor meet

Brunei Darussalam’s petanque players are eyeing good performances against international opposition in the Johor Petanque Open 2020 at the Johor Baharu City Council (MBJB) Petanque Arena in Taman Tampoi Utama, Johor Bahru from March 28-29.

In conjunction with the participation of the Brunei players, an apparel handover ceremony was held at the Petanque Court of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex yesterday.

President of the Brunei Darussalam Petanque Federation (BDPF) Haji Mohamad bin Panglima Asgar Dato Paduka Haji Abdullah was present at the event.

Led by Hajah Norhaini binti Haji Dollah as manager, the seven players that will represent the country are Mazlan bin Haji Yahya, Wirna bin Haji Mohd Yassin, Md Amir bin Haji Sapar, Masli bin Haji Mohd Said, Haji Mohd Sahmedeyn bin Haj Kahar, Haji Nawawi bin Haji Nauhi and Abdul Afiq bin Abdul Aziz.

The Johor Petanque Open, which welcomes participation from players outside of the state with a majority of them expected to come from Peninsular Malaysia, will be Brunei’s first international appearance of the year.

Team manager Hajah Norhaini expressed the team’s hopes to achieve success, enhance quality and performance with Wirna adding that they will be giving their best for the country.

The players will face stiff competition especially against players who have been part of the Malaysian setup in the Southeast Asian Games or a part of Malaysia’s scheme.

The regional meet, which is held in conjunction of Visit Johor 2020, will feature two categories namely men’s and women’s doubles.
