Atami City boost ties with Brunei

A three member delegation from Atami City of Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan are currently in the country to promote cooperation between Atami City and Brunei Darussalam in the field of Sports, Halal food, tourism and people to people exchanges.

The Japanese delegation comprised Atami City Congressist Kenzo Murayama, Deputy tourism Development Department of Atami City Shuji Tatsumi and Vice Chairman of Atami-Brunei Friendship Association Ikeda Shuichi.

The mayor of Atami Saito Sakae is expected to arrive in Brunei Darussalam today to meet senior officials in several ministries.

Accompanied by Advisor to the President for Brunei Affairs of Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) Okuochi Hiroshi, the Japanese delegation yesterday visited the national para athletes of Brunei Darussalam at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.

Secretary General of the Paralympic Council of Brunei Darussalam Md Zain bin Haji Mohammad, Coach Lim Chee Wee and Coach Md Wahib bin Ismail welcomed the delegation.

The visit was to promote Atami City as the host town for Brunei athletes during the Paralympic Games 2020. Atami City is also interested to be the host town for Brunei’s athletes during the Summer Olympic Games 2020.

Atami City is located just 35 minutes away from Tokyo by bullet train and has sporting facilities for training such as Minami Atami Hall for badminton, and Himenosawa Park for athletics. The weather and natural environment of Atami is perfect to keep athletes in top condition.

Meanwhile, Atami City received some three million visitors last year and is expected to receive a greater number of visitors this year.
