Young leaders discuss challenges at Day of Action Forum

The Day of Action Forum on Youth Participation, Volunteerism and Leadership to National Development as part of the Brunei Chevening Youth Forum (BCYF) 2020, held in conjunction with the Day of Action 2019 took place on, January 18 and 19, at The Core, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD). The theme was ‘Solution Driven Generation’ hosted by Chevening Alumni Brunei, Brunei Youth Council (BYC) and Young Professionals Network (YPBN) and supported by the British High Commission in Brunei Darussalam and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

Now on its 12th Edition, BYCF is a platform that brings together young leaders and Chevening alumni members from Brunei and the region to discuss insights, challenges and opportunities to the development of Brunei as the platform aspires to promote youth participation and leadership in economic, national and regional development.

Topics discussed included ‘Bruneian Youth as Future Ready Agents of Change’, ‘The Solution Driven Generation’, ‘Coming Together for the Future of Brunei’, ‘Envisioning Brunei 2025, Brunei 2035 and Brunei 2050’, ‘Town-hall Session on Youth Issues and Opportunities’, and ‘Breakout’ sessions on volunteerism, resilience, sustainability of doing good.

“We hope to encourage, motivate and support young people’s participation and leadership to national development in constructive ways by promoting volunteerism, entrepreneurship, leadership development among others aimed at developing a generation of future ready agents of change,” said founder and Convener of BCYF Fatin Arifin.

The forum gathered over 250 people from across all districts to collectively promote, discuss and learn about youth participation, volunteerism and leadership to national development aimed at creating, enabling and championing young people’s participation in a meaningful and dynamic way.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin was the guest of honour while British High Commissioner to Brunei Richard Lindsay was the special guest. (BCYF)
