Woman fined for failing to comply with customs officer’s instructions

The Magistrate’s Court ordered a local woman to settle a BND2,500 fine, or serve two months’ imprisonment in default, for failing to comply with the instructions of a Royal Customs and Excise Department officer yesterday.

A trial was conducted when Rosy Muqxniyrah binti A Ramlee denied the charge against her.

Magistrate Mohammad Marzuqi bin Sabtu found Deputy Public Prosecutor Dr Hussin Ali bin Idris’ case against the defendant to be proven beyond the court’s reasonable doubt. The prosecution’s case was that the defendant had driven off in her car during a Customs inspection at the Kuala Lurah Control Post at 6.12pm on November 14, 2018.

The customs examiners had tried to stop the defendant’s car as she pulled away. The prosecution’s case was supported by four witnesses, the customs examiners and CCTV footage.

The defendant did not produce any witnesses during the trial.
