Students and parents/guardians will be able to learn more about studying at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) as it will be at the Higher Education Expo 2020 at BRIDEX International Conference Centre from February 8-9.
Open to the public from 9am to 5pm, the two-day event organised by the Ministry of Education welcomes students looking to take those first steps to higher education as well as employees looking to acquire new skills.
The expo brings together a number of post-secondary and tertiary education institutions, both in the private and government sectors, under one roof. Visitors can obtain a better understanding of the higher education landscape in the Sultanate, while scoping out opportunities for lifelong education available in Brunei Darussalam.
Visitors can find out more about programmes available in UBD, especially its undergraduate programmes. They can also get to know more about entry requirements as well as graduate studies and life-long learning options.
UBD’s undergraduate GenNEXT degree is a student-centric approach to education, laying the foundation for life-long learning. This multi-disciplinary approach equips students with essential skills of critical thinking, reasoning, communication, quantitative analysis and a national and global perspective.
Three principles embedded in all the GenNEXT modules are entrepreneurship, leadership and innovation, and environmental awareness.
Its GenNEXT curriculum is designed to enhance students’ knowledge and competency in specific disciplinary areas as well as broad-based knowledge outside their major discipline, providing students with flexibility in choice of careers. Thus, GenNEXT involves a balanced combination of depth and breadth. By the end of the degree, a student should know a disciplinary area well, its main ideas, methodology and current questions and issues. At the same time, he/she should have broad exposure to knowledge beyond disciplinary specialisation.
UBD’s rise up the ranks in the QS rankings as 298th in the world, 86th in Asia, and 35th in the world for universities under 50 years old has resulted in increasing international recognition of UBD as a university of teaching and research excellence. Last year, UBD entered the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for the first time with a global position in the 401 to 500 band.
UBD is also holding its Open Day on the same days at the Student Centre, UBD for visitors to gain a more immersive experience of life in the university. They can even have a peek at student life through scheduled campus tours. For updates on UBD Open Day, follow @ubdbuzz on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
