The Korean Embassy in Brunei Darussalam announced that the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) will take place on April 12, at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Language Centre, in cooperation with the UBD Language Centre.
According to a press release, the test is designed to assess and certify the language proficiency of learners of Korean as a foreign language. The TOPIK test results can be used as a guideline for placing foreign students into Korean universities or non-native workers into enterprises in Korea or overseas, including Brunei Darussalam.
TOPIK is eligible to overseas Koreans and foreigners who do not speak Korean as their mother tongue, individuals learning the Korean Language with intentions to apply at Korean universities, individuals intending to join/work for domestic/overseas Korean companies and public organisations, and Koreans who study or graduated overseas.
Applicants should register and submit the completed application form (obtainable at the Korean Embassy in Brunei Darussalam) along with the test fee in cash (BND30 for TOPIK I and BND35 for TOPIK II), two colour passport photos (3cm x 4cm) and a copy of ID card to the embassy between January 13-28 during office hours, except Saturday and Sunday.
The grading method of the test are Listening (40mins) with 30 questions and reading (60mins) with 40 questions. Applicants needs to have 80 points and above for listening and 140 points and above for reading for the TOPIK I test.
In TOPIK II, applicants will be given 50 questions in listening (60mins), four questions in writing and 50 questions (70mins) in reading. Points needed are 120 points and above for listening, 150 points and above for writing and 190 points and above for reading and the required total points is 230 points above.
If the number of TOPIK applicants are less than five, the test is subject to being cancelled. For more information, visit the embassy’s website or its Facebook account.
