Tabuan signalled their intent of capturing the NFABD Under-16 Youth League title after cruising to an emphatic 6-0 victory over sorry Rimba Star FC at the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex yesterday.
Rimba Star managed to keep the damage at a minimum with Tabuan only leading a goal to the good in the first half but the latter charged with a flurry of goals once hostilities reconvened in the second half.
Central to the demolition was Tabuan captain Awangku Md Idzzaham Alwshahmezan bin Pengiran Metali who stole the show with a treble.
Tabuan already made a foray into the final third with the first half barely started as Mohammad Hazwan bin Hasmi flashed his shot wide.
The national development team came agonisingly close to open the scoring when Mohammad Hazwan’s shot was cleared off the line by last-ditch defending.
It took 14 minutes for Tabuan to break Rimba’s resolve as Md Syaherrul Affendy bin Md Syahmirul Nizam continued his prolific form with his 10th goal in his last three appearances.
The lethal forward also saw a cross-cum-shot brush against the post before Muhammad Baihaqi Yusop’s shot flew wide.
Tabuan doubled the lead with a minute of the second half lapsed as Awangku Md Idzzaham Alwshahmezan rifled a low drive into the bottom corner.
Returning to terrorise the embattled Rimba Star, Awangku Md Ali Munawwar bin Pengiran Abdul Rahman set up Md Syaherrul Affendy who hit the post.
However, the striker showed hunger and desire to steal the ball off the Rimba defence before striking a decent effort home past goalkeeper and captain Faridhaikal bin Mohd Izzam.
Awangku Md Idzzaham Alwshahmezan had a goal-bound effort initially cleared off the line but he slotted home the rebound for his second goal of the game.
Rimba Star had their best opportunity of the game when they managed to evade the Tabuan defence but the largely untested goalkeeper stayed firm to help preserve a clean sheet.
Tabuan’s Md Abdul Wafiq Waldan bin Haji Md Abdul Khaleeq came off the bench to get his name on the score-sheet after he bundled home from close range.
There was still time for rising star Awangku Md Idzzaham Alwshahmezan to complete his hat-trick after firing home from close range two minutes from time.
