Brunei Darussalam is set to participate in its first ever Voluntary National Review (VNR) session this July at the United Nations (UN) High-level Political Forum in New York, United States (US).

In preparation, the Ministry of Finance and Economy (MoFE), with the support of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is currently conducting a two-day VNR Workshop for Brunei Darussalam at The Rizqun International Hotel from yesterday to today.

The workshop, which involves the relevant stakeholders in the country, showcases the country’s commitment towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, which were adopted by all UN member states in 2015.

Present as the guest of honour at the opening ceremony was Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah.

In the keynote address, the minister highlighted the key role of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in driving collective efforts at a global scale towards achieving a better and sustainable future for all.

The minister acknowledged that while progress has been made in some areas (such as a reduced number of people living in extreme poverty), other areas require more attention – such as combatting the adverse effects of climate change and encouraging countries to continue collective and multilateral collaboration in addressing such challenges.
