Students greet Lunar New Year with lion dance

In marking the festive season of the Chinese New Year for the Year of the Rat, the residents of St John’s School, Kuala Belait celebrated the annual occasion as part of the school’s Chinese New Year celebration event.

Held at the school on January 27 morning, the event was filled with festivities as students, teacher, staff members, parents and guardians joined together in the celebration.

Member of the school’s Board of Governor Lai Fok Hin, the guest of honour, was accompanied by the Principal Dr Teh Keng Watt. The students, teachers, staff members of the school along with the student’s parents and guardians witnessed and interacted with the lion dance performance by the Lion Dance Troupe from Foochow Association, Kuala Belait, as the performance made its way across the school compound.

One of the members from the Foochow Association also dressed up as the traditional robes of Caishen distributed candy and treats among the young students. The performance concluded with the handing of peeled mandarin oranges signifying good fortune to the guest of honour. The students enjoyed the school day with a myriad of Chinese New Year-themed activities and games.
