Smuggling attempt foiled

The Department of Quarantine and Inspection Services of Malaysia (MAQIS) successfully thwarted an attempt to bring in mangoes, salted eggs and chillies without permit from Brunei Darussalam to Labuan, in December 2019. Labuan MAQIS Director Nazrul Azman Mat Rahim said that an examination found those agricultural products did not have valid documents such as an Import Permit (IP), a Health Certificate and a Phythosanitation Certificate from the country of origin. “The materials were seized during a baggage check at the Labuan International Ferry Terminal,” he told Malaysian newspapers. During the inspection, MAQIS enforcement officers seized about 20kg of goods worth RM190. More details in Weekend’s Borneo Bulletin
