JOHOR BAHRU (BERNAMA) – A single mother was charged in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday with causing the death of her own two-year-old daughter last week.

Nurul Shamira Mazlan, 21, appeared calm and nodded after the charge was read out to her before Magistrate Rashidah Baharom.

No plea was recorded.

The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries a mandatory death sentence, upon conviction.

The girl died on January 13. Benedict Choong Kai-Qi appeared for the prosecution while the accused was represented by lawyers Muhammad Ashraff Mohd Diah, Mohd Norazihan Adnan and Jack Sumatra.
