Registration opens for 33rd Japanese Speech Contest

The Continuing Education and Training Division (CET) under the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), Ministry of Education, the Language Centre at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), and the Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam, in cooperation with the Department of Co-Curriculum Education, Ministry of Education, are organising the 33rd Japanese Speech Contest on March 11 at 1pm at Lecture Theatre, The Core, UBD.

The contest aims to encourage the contestants to give a public demonstration of their proficiency in the Japanese language.

This event will also serve as a good opportunity to deepen mutual understanding between Japan and Brunei Darussalam and aspires to foster greater friendship among the people of both countries.

Two categories are open for participation – Beginner Level and Advance Level.

The Beginner Level is specified for those who have studied the Japanese language for less than two years.

The Advance Level participants must not have stayed in Japan for more than a total of two years since the age of six.

In each category, contestants are free to choose their title and subject but should avoid political, religious and controversial topics.

In addition to the individual speech category, a group presentation category is also open to students from secondary schools, sixth form centres and IBTE.

Registration for the group presentation category is through the Department of Co-Curriculum Education and should be emailed to [email protected]

To enter the contest, participants can either scan the QR code on the embassy’s Facebook page or Instagram, or email [email protected] for more information. Registration is open until February 9.
