An agreement signing between the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) with two Asnaf Zakat (tithe recipients) was held yesterday. The two selected youth will undergo 24 months of skill training at the Institute of Baitulmal Skills, Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (MAIWP), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The selected recipients were Sari Wahyuni binti Ahmadhizamzhah, 18, and Azibah binti Ajak, 19. They will undergo a full-time course under the Food and Catering Services programme.
The signing of the agreement between Asnaf Zakat Empowerment Programme (PROPAZ) and the two participants was held at Multaqa Hall of the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Witnessing the ceremony was Acting Secretary of MUIB Haji Abdul Aziz bin Haji Akop.
The two were selected following the 43rd Senior Officers Meeting for Religious Ministers of MABIMS Unofficial Meeting in 2018. The meeting discussed the improvement of the standard of living of Muslims who are in need. As a result of this meeting, MAIWP agreed to provide placement and opportunity for those qualified individuals from Brunei Darussalam to undergo skill training at the institute. The training is fully funded by the country organiser and includes training cost, transportation cost, food, accommodation and monthly allowances. While MUIB will bear the pre-departure cost, the participants will also have their own preparations. The cost is funded from the Zakat (tithe) collection of the Asnaf Fakir Miskin. MUIB, under the PROPAZ programme in early 2018, has sent two participants to undergo the skill training in Building Architecture and Technology and Food Catering and Services whereby the participants successfully completed their courses. For the second batch, the selected participants took the Art and Design course in which one of them has been offered to continue his training to Level II.
