PMS booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Al Idrus FA Cup Football Championship 2020 for aged 50 and above after they defeated KB Warriors 2-0 in a pulsating affair at the Tutong Sports Complex recently.
The opening period of the first half saw a steadily organised KB Warriors side settling into the game and dictating the tempo of the game.
However, the game started to change pace when the opening goal of the game nearly arrived in PMS’s favour after their player Md Dany bin Haji Mohidin escaped the opponent’s backline, but a teammate could not complete the move with a finish at the end of his cross.
In the 27th minute, KB Warriors nearly found the breakthrough when one of their players rattled against the post from a free-kick.
The Belait-based side received a setback when PMS nudged ahead in the 45th minute as Johan bin Haji Zinin applied a simple finish past the KB Warriors goalkeeper having latched onto a cross from Rosli Bujing.
PMS doubled their lead in the 78th minute through a slice of misfortune on their opponents’ part after they scored an own goal in an attempt to clear a cross from Omarsah bin Haji Hassan.
KB Warriors looked to stage a recovery as they made attacking endeavours twice in three minutes but luck did not favour them. Nevertheless, both sides managed to show a steady and good quality of play throughout the match.
The Tutong outfit’s reward of advancing to the next round will see them enter a last-eight tie against the winner of the match between AH United and PSJD.
The other teams that have sealed their passage to the next round are Al Idrus FT, Terazza FC, Savasci Panaga 2000, RB Veteran and SM Veteran.
Organised by the Al Idrus Sport Club, the competition aims to keep veteran players fit and in good shape regardless of age and to lead a healthy lifestyle.
