Nurturing patriotism among students

The Information Department through its Nationhood Unit of the Nationhood and Community Division held a Rakan Remaja Penerangan (RRP) Programme for 351 students and teaching staff of Katok Secondary School at the school’s Multipurpose Hall yesterday.

Present at the event was Principal Penroose Saleha binti Haji Mohd Salleh.

The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat led by Haji Fadhilullah Umar bin Haji Md Asnawi, followed by the singing of the national anthem and patriotic song ‘Bendera Negara’ and a welcoming speech by the school’s principal.

The event continued with the nationhood briefing titled ‘Raja Kita, Menghayati Bendera dan Lagu Kebangsaan Negara Brunei Darussalam’ (Our King, Appreciating Our National Flag and National Anthem of Brunei Darussalam) by Head of the Nationhood Unit of the Nationhood and Community Division Assistant Information Officer Hajah Noorhijrah binti Haji Idris.

Video clips showing the proper flag-hoisting procedures were also presented.

The event was enlivened by a lecture performance titled ‘Ada Apa Dengan Cinta’, a solo performance by the finalist of the Information Department’s Bintang Penerangan programme Mohammad Nor Amirudin bin Haji Brahim, as well as a comedy sketch and Nationhood quiz by Hajah Kasumawati binti Haji Buntar and Haji Mohd Firdaus bin Haji Salleh.

The programme aimed to inform youth especially school students in disseminating current information and activities; to expose students on the developments and current affairs; instilling a sense of civility and social responsibility, to make students agents in disseminating positive and constructive information to peers; and to promote positive mind-set and morals, while at the same time reaching out to the youth and school students through directed and guided entertainment.
