New year, new goals

To usher in the new decade, the Bulletin talked to nine people to discuss their hopes, expectations and resolutions for 2020.

Nur Ameerah Al-Jannah binti Mohd Harris

“My new year’s resolution is to find a balance between my studies and social life. I’ve also resolved to procrastinate less, as I don’t want to be behind schedule anymore.”

Nur Syakirah Al-Munawwarah binti Mohd Harris

“My new year’s resolution is simple – make new friends, explore new activities and go outside of my comfort zone, while also putting in effort for my ‘A’ Level exams. I will also try to spend less time on social media and more in communication with my family.”

Norafidah binti Haji Mat Zidi

“Usually, at the end of the year, my husband and I will use some of our savings for travel. We see it as a celebration in achieving our money goals. The savings we’ve managed to accrue are for the long-term haul, especially for our retirement.”

“My new year’s resolution is to lose weight and exercise more. Easier said than done, I know, but I want to take small steps by cutting down on my sugar intake and eating in moderation. I also want to do workout sessions twice a week. Hopefully I will manage that this year.”

Haji Shamsul bin Haji Zaini, Unified National Networks Sdn Bhd

“Let’s welcome responsibility, as it will increase our chances of being prosperous and successful. I look forward to a new year filled with plenty of work and opportunities.”

Hajah Siti, Standard Chartered Brunei

“Here’s hoping that 2020 will be a better financial year, and that our national economy will flourish and see positive growth.”

Haliza binti Haji Puasa, Kampong Mulaut

“Spare a moment of thought for the achievements and the failures of 2019, so that we can move forward and improvise. I also hope for peace everywhere, especially in war-torn countries like Syria.”

Iswandi bin Maaruf, Operations Manager for Mulia Hotel and President of the Brunei Association of Hotels (BAH)

“May this year bring new happiness, new goals, new achievements, and plenty of new inspirations.”
