The Brunei Council on Social Welfare (MKM) yesterday provided assistance to four families of 36 members who are victims of the recent fire in Kampong Ayer.
Twelve houses were destroyed and 99 people were rendered homeless in the fire that engulfed part of Kampong Bendahara Lama in the capital on Wednesday.
Mohd Yusof bin Shaik Abdul Halim said, “Speedy assistance had been provided by several government authorities and all victims have been placed in temporary housing. MKM realised that the victims may need some other assistance”.
MKM members requested from the victims to reveal the assistance they required. Most asked for kitchen equipment including stoves, gas cylinders, cooking utensils, plates and cutlery.
These items were handed over to the victims yesterday. MKM also handed over cash donations. Mohd Yusof said, “We will monitor if the victims need further assistance and will do what we can to assist”.
MKM relies on public donations for its charitable activities and can be reached at its helpline 7146680.
