Minister receives courtesy call from Singapore Permanent Secretary

Singapore Permanent Secretary (Defence) Chan Heng Kee yesterday morning paid a courtesy call on Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof.

Singapore High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Lim Hong Huai was also present at the courtesy call.

During the call, both sides reaffirmed the close bilateral relationship between Brunei Darussalam and Singapore, and expressed satisfaction with the various avenues of defence cooperation at the bilateral and multilateral levels.

Chan Heng Kee, who was on an introductory visit to Brunei Darussalam from January 8-9, also called on Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Major General Pengiran Dato Paduka Seri Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar bin Haji Ma’awiah.

As part of the programme, Chan Heng Kee visited the RBAF Museum and Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (SHHBIDSS). An official dinner was also hosted by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence in honour of Chan Heng Kee.

Chan Heng Kee’s visit underscores the close and long-standing defence relations between Brunei Darussalam and Singapore. Both defence and military establishments have extensive and regular interactions in the form of exchanges of visits, dialogues, meetings, military exercises, trainings, courses, exhibitions and development and interaction programmes.
