Malaysian police foil online gambling syndicate, 13 arrested

KLUANG (BERNAMA) – Malaysian police have foiled an online gambling syndicate with the arrest of 17 Chinese nationals and a local man in a raid on two houses in Jalan Delima 7, Taman Delima, on Thursday night.

Johor Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief SAC Yusof Ahmad said the 7.30pm raids on the call centres were conducted by police teams from the Johor Contingent Police Headquarters, Iskandar Puteri District Police Headquarters, Johor Bahru Utara District Police Headquarters, and the Kluang District Police Headquarters.

“Those detained were 15 male and two female Chinese nationals, and a local man, all aged between 20 and 50 years. The local man was believed to be the mastermind who managed all the activities and the houses,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Yusof said during the raid, all the suspects were busy managing and promoting the online gambling in the two houses and their victims were Chinese nationals. He said the syndicate was believed to have been in operations since about two months ago and handled transactions of up to RM200,000 a day.
