Make the most of StudyGlobal Fair

A visit to the StudyGlobal Fair on January 22 is invaluable for those planning their overseas study options. An opportunity to talk to a member of staff from UK, Australian and Malaysian universities under one roof is an excellent way to compare and contrast course structure, costs, unique features, internship opportunities etc.

Some planning and preparedness before visiting the event will maximise the benefits and will provide additional information that the student might not have considered.

So what does the student need to do before the January 22?

Extensive research is the key to successful studies. The student should identify suitable courses and universities and short-list about five universities attending the exhibition that interests him or her.

For a meaningful discussion with the university staff, it is advisable that the student carries all the documents (transcripts, certificates, passport copy etc) to show the representative to assess eligibility and suitability.

It is also important that the student prepares a set of questions to ask the delegate to ensure systematic discussion with each university. Exhibitors are friendly and helpful but they need to have some idea of the type of information that the student is seeking.

It is also possible that after talking to several university staff, the student might mix up the information received from the university and cannot remember who said what.

The student is encouraged to take extensive notes which can be used as reference when doing further research or discussing the programme with parents and advisors.

The StudyGlobal Application Fair will be running a parallel series of career talks.

Brunei has manpower shortages in a number of fields but these are in areas that students might never have heard of.

The career talks are free and will provide valuable insight into skills gaps in Brunei as well as what studying for a particular course entails.

This exposure will allow the student to evaluate various career options and to relate them to their own personal interests and aptitude.

The StudyGlobal Fair will be held at The Empire Brunei on January 22 from 1pm to 7pm. The exhibitions tend to be busy and it is advisable to visit early to maximise your time. Contact HRDS at 2452245/7180157 for further information about the event and the career seminars.
