Local Chinese community donates BND19,000 to fire victims

Led by Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Goh King Chin, several members of the local Chinese community have contributed a total of BND19,000 to the heads of eight families who lost their homes in the recent fire at Kampong Pengiran Bendahara Lama.

The contributions came from Hua Ho Department Store; the Chinese Chamber of Commerce (CCC), Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB); and the Kuang Hui Association.

In the handover ceremony held yesterday at the Brunei-Muara District Office, Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Goh King Chin presented BND8,000 to the recipients, while Lau How Teck of Hua Ho Department Store presented BND8,000.

Representing the CCC, BSB was its President Malcolm Lim, Deputy President Francis Lee and Dato Jack Ting Chai, who handed over BND2,400.

Deputy Chairman II of the Kuang Hui Association Lew Yin Chiang presented BND600 to the recipients. Also present at the handover ceremony was Acting Brunei-Muara District Officer Mohd Yassin bin Haji Ahmed. Members of the public are welcomed to contribute to the newly established Kampong Pengiran Bendahara Lama Fire Victim Charity Fund which is open until February 29.

Donations may be made at mosques across the country, District Office buildings in all four districts and commercial premises; or submitted directly to the Co-Secretariat of the Kampong Pengiran Bendahara Lama Fire Victim Charity Fund at the Brunei-Muara District Office in Jalan Airport Lama, during office hours.

Donations can also be made through account number: 00-001-01-0064212 at Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD).
