As a continued effort in reaching out to the community and caring about the welfare of the families affected by the fire in Kampong Pengiran Bendahara Lama on January 8, Kemuda Institute Student Council of both campuses (Belait and Beribi) organised a donation campaign where they distributed staple foods and everyday needs to the affected families.
Nine families are in a temporary accommodation provided by Community Development Department (JAPEM) at Kampong Sungai Akar, while four families are living at Kampong Pengiran Bendahara Lama. The donation campaign was led by Student Council representative Md Aznil Khairuddin bin Haji Kharul Azmi.
All families involved in the fire received donations from Kemuda Institute and also some contributions from Legislative Council member and Penghulu of Mukim Liang Yang Berhormat Haji Abdul Hamid bin Haji Mumin as well as from Muslimah of Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam Mosque, Jerudong.
The donations were hoped to ease their burdens and to help them to go through their daily lives till they are granted permanent housing. The initiative aims to encourage the spirit and culture of helping people in need. This activity also promotes goodwill among the students and encourages them to contribute their services to charity and community activities.
