The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) emerged winners in the veteran category of the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Cup Futsal Championship 2020 after defeating the Department of Youth and Sports ‘A’ 3-1 in the final at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex yesterday.
Former national player Irwan Mohammad rolled back the years when he bagged a double with Haji Mohd Ali Rahman also on target while Pengiran Shari netted for the Youth and Sports Department.
The MCYS also made a clean sweep in the individual accolades as Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud was named the best player in the veteran category while Irwan Mohammad walked away with the top scorer award.
The open category final also proved to be a close affair as the Language and Literature Bureau ‘B’ edged the Community Development Department 1-0.
Muhd Fitrahtul Rahman bin Ratano has been banging goals throughout the tournament but his solitary strike in the final proved enough to secure the title.
The newly crowned open category champions dominated the individual accolades with championship-winning hero Mohd Fitrahtul scooping the tournament’s top scorer award while his teammate Pengiran Rahman bin Pengiran Haji Aliudin was named best player.
The Youth and Sports Department ‘B’ snatched third in the veteran category while the Brunei History Centre ‘A’ settled for a third place finish in the open category.
Meanwhile, the Community Development Department was named the best team in the open category while the best team in the veteran category fell to the Brunei History Centre.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin presented the prizes.
