One needs to have strong empowerment in terms of aqidah (beliefs) and amalan (practice) to be excellent students which could be the light in darkness.

Students also need to balance between duniawi and ukhrawi to excel in studies. These were highlighted by renowned speaker from Republic of Indonesia Professor Dr Ustaz Abdul Somad (UAS) Batubara in his special lecture at the auditorium of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) yesterday.

In his lecture entitled ‘Menjadi Pelajar Cemerlang’ or ‘To be an Excellent Student’, the students were encouraged to obtain more knowledge (ilmu) by referring to kitab or books written by Islamic scholars.

The almost one-hour special lecture also advised students to be determined in their studies. The special lecture aimed to serve as a motivational platform for students of UNISSA to excel in their studies while at the same time not to be misguided with deviant teachings.

The event also marked the 13th anniversary of UNISSA’s establishment. Prior to the special lecture, the Rector of UNISSA Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal presented a letter of appointment to Professor Dr Ustaz Abdul Somad who will be a Visiting Professor of the Faculty of Usuluddin for period of two years starting January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2021.

The Rector of UNISSA hoped that the newly appointed Visiting Professor will assist UNISSA in achieving its mission and vision while assisting UNISSA to become a prominent Islamic university in the Asian region.

Rector of UNISSA, executive officers, officers and some 500 students of UNISSA were also present.
