Hawa FT have a slim chance to make a late push for third place in the NFABD Under-16 Youth League after they emerged 2-0 winners against Indera SC at the Kilanas Community Field recently.
While third-placed Projek Ikan Pusu (PIP) are in a favourable position with two games in hand, the young Belait outfit have an outside chance of swapping places after they moved level on points with their rivals.
Hawa and PIP are locked on 31 points but the latter are two wins away of confirming third place.
A huge goal swing of 20 will heavily weigh in Projek Ikan Pusu’s favour should both teams go down the wire level on points on the final day of the season.
Hopes of a third place finish became a possibility after defending champions PIP hit a speedbump in the 2-1 defeat to title-chasing DPMM FC.
Hawa player Md Zharizal bin Zamali opened the scoring in the 13th minute before the lead doubled through a misfortunate own goal by Aeril Farshah bin Mohd Ali seven minutes later. Victory also opened up a six-point gap between Hawa and Indera, who had their own aspirations of finishing fourth, with two games in the league season left.
In other matches, Bang Dalam defeated Kota Ranger 2-0 at the Tutong Sports Complex courtesy of a Mohd Amiruddin bin Haji Abdul Wahab’s double while PMS Junior marked only their third win of the season in a 3-0 victory over FC Phosphor at the NFABD House.
Syamim Fahmi bin Suni bagged a brace in a space of four minutes while Muhd Adam Danial bin Mohd Bakri also got his name in the scoresheet four minutes before the break. The match between Rimba Star and Setia Perdana ended in a 1-1 draw as Mohd Wafi Syahrizan bin Alfizan’s goal in the 16th minute cancelled out an effort from Mohd Rafie bin Zulhaidi.
Moving on to today’s round of fixtures, Indera SC can aid Hawa’s hopes if they secure victory against PIP, who look to bounce back from the DPMM FC defeat.
There will also be interest at the Arena Sports Complex as Hawa’s quest for perfection until the end of the season continues against Kota Ranger FC.
Meanwhile, league leaders DPMM FC will look to continue their winning run against basement dwellers PMS Junior at the Jerudong Park Mini Stadium while Rimba Star host Tabuan at the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex.
The tie between Bang Dalam FC and Setia Perdana at the Tutong Sports Complex complete the line-up of matches this weekend.
