Some 90 grassroots leaders concluded a two-day leadership workshop with a certificate presentation ceremony at the Civil Service Institute yesterday.
The guest of honour, Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong presented the certificates.
The workshop was an initiative by the Ministry of Home Affairs in collaboration with several government bodies to boost participants’ knowledge in handling village residents and their active involvement in the implementation of community affairs.
Permanent Secretary (Municipal and District) at the Ministry of Home Affairs Salminan bin Haji Burut said, “The workshop was intended for grassroots leaders from four districts as an ideal platform for participants to interact and exchange knowledge and experience to plan and execute activities.”
He hoped that participants will use the knowledge to perform tasks effectively to generate positive changes and progress in communities and villages.
Acting Village Head of Kampong Bebatik Mohamad Asyramisyani bin Kamis said the workshop provided exposure on essential skills to grassroots leaders and provided guidelines. Having being elected only six months ago, the 38-year-old felt the workshop came at an ideal time. “The workshop expanded my skill sets as a leader and helped me familiarise myself with the new working environment. Prior to this, I had to learn based on experience or on-the-job.
“It also provided clarity on various schemes, programmes, laws and regulations as well as the policies.
“I hope to apply the new skills to better lead the community,” he said.
