Retail outlets ran out of fresh meat yesterday, as Bruneians rushed to purchase chicken, lamb or beef cuts for the traditional New Year’s Eve barbeque.
One customer, Hajah Khatimah, said she had to make do with frozen chicken parts after finding out that chicken wing supplies were already sold out through advance bookings. For Shamsul Adli, who manages a grilled chicken stall, he said, “This is normal. Many of my customers had already made bookings before those in the civil service even received their yearly bonus.
“With that, I need to ensure a ready supply of chicken wings. I usually put in early reserved orders at poultry meat suppliers, so that I have enough for my grilled honey chicken stall.”
