The Fisheries Department under Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT), reminded fishermen, especially those with fishing gear licence issued by the Fisheries Department, to comply with the requirements of the current fishery licence.
In a statement issued by the department, the conditions include a ban on fishing operations within
an area of 500 metres from the floating fish cage off the coast of Brunei Darussalam.
Accordingly, any fishing licensee who is found to have failed to comply with or violate the terms of the fishing gear licence will be fined. Under the Fisheries Order 2009, if convicted, they can be fined up to BND1,000 or in court with a fine of up to BND10,000 or up to one year in jail.
