Experts delve on cybersecurity awareness

Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd hosted the first Brunei LNG Cybersecurity Forum themed ‘Forging Ahead With Cybersecurity’ at Sungai Liang Industrial Park (SPARK) yesterday.

The forum officially launched Brunei LNG’s Cybersecurity Strategy showcasing to key stakeholders. The forum aimed to increase cybersecurity awareness by listening to experts in the field.

Brunei LNG Senior General Plant Manager Haji Mohd Jaafar bin Haji Awang Bakar in his opening speech outlined the importance of cybersecurity, especially with increased reliance on and advancements in technology.

He quoted from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s titah where concerns were raised with regard to cybersafety in the country with emphasis on how cybersecurity is an increasingly complex threat with attention focussed to deal with potential cybersecurity risks to the nation.

In response to the impact of cybersecurity as well as the trends and threats in the industry, Brunei LNG and Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd leaders along with Brunei LNG’s ecosystem partners have developed the Brunei LNG Cybersecurity Vision ‘To make Brunei LNG cyber resilient, securing its people and assets every day’.

A three-year Cybersecurity Strategy has been developed with key initiatives to achieve this vision that will have the highest impact on risk reduction and maturity growth, while adding to the In-Country Value.

Haji Mohd Jaafar also said that Brunei LNG’s three-year Cybersecurity Strategy is in line with Brunei Vision 2035 that drove to introduce the Brunei Digital Government Strategy to develop and implement a National Cybersecurity Framework to provide a resilient and trusted digital platform that maximises the full potential of the digital space.

Brunei LNG Technical Manager Scott Bilton introduced the Brunei LNG Cybersecurity Strategy, aimed at making Brunei LNG cyber resilient with those that matter the most: its people.

“We are all part of this journey. We as people are the most powerful tool we have to make Brunei LNG resilient,” he said, adding that having leaders’ support and collaboration with business partners are also key factors towards realizing the vision.

The forum also saw presentations from different subject matter experts in the field of cybersecurity from Shell to KPMG to Honeywell to share best practices around a variety of cybersecurity topics such as cyber security transformation and operational cybersecurity sharing best practices and lessons learned.
