Ever since entering the market in 1966, the Toyota Corolla has been known all over the world as a benchmark for a quality-made, reliable and durable vehicle. Since then, it has undergone a radical transformation that is largely in response to changing times, and the subsequent evolution in what customers need and expect from their vehicles.
The all-new model is in its 12th generation with the Corolla Altis, which comes with a selection of a 1.8L petrol engine or a 1.6L petrol engine. The 1.8L engine is fine-tuned to give better acceleration performance while the 1.6L engine is designed to be perfectly suitable for daily driving.
With a recent invitation for a media test-drive by NBT Brunei Sdn Bhd, we were able to feel the power that the Corolla Altis brings, proving that the model is staying true to its roots through its dynamic characteristics and sedan DNA.
The new Corolla Altis offers a number of unique key selling points. Its exterior appearance is designed under the concept of “Shooting Robust”, standing out with sharp, sleek and solid sweeping lines, while the interior design has been created under a ‘Clean & Wide’ concept with its spacious cabin intended for ease of actual use, fully equipped with facilities that provide convenience throughout the journey.
The Corolla Altis is the third model in Brunei designed on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform which elevates driving performance and comfort beyond expectations.
It sports impressive handling with greater agility through an improved suspension system with a rear double wishbone and lower centre of gravity with its height lowered by -20mm and added length of 10mm, stability through a rigid body structure, a best-in-class turning circle, and visibility through a lower instrument panel, thinner A-Pillars and repositioned side mirrors.
The TNGA contributes to the car’s lower centre of gravity which increases the stability control when driving the car either in a straight line or on curves, on top of featuring a refined MacPherson Strut front suspension system that helps in enhancing the car’s smoothness and handling efficiency, while the double wishbone rear suspension substantially boosts the car’s stability and ensures smooth rides.
The generous application of sound and shock absorbing and insulating materials in different positions helps minimise the penetration of unpleasant noise into the cabin, making it possible for the driver and passengers to enjoy smooth and relaxed rides.
With more vehicles on the road, customers want better protection while driving. Through the Corolla Altis, Toyota has integrated a single system – the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) for the 1.8L petrol engine, which is the most advanced version and consists of four main systems, which are Pre-Collision System (PCS), Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert (LDA) and Auto High-Beam (AHB).
This is the most advanced Toyota Safety Sense system in the Toyota range. DRCC can take the car to a complete stop if needed and speed it back up again once the vehicle or obstacle have moved out of the way.
As part of Toyota’s commitment to democratise advanced safety equipment, the TSS is standard across the range.
As for colour choices, customers have the option of Super White, White Pearl, Silver Metallic, Grey Metallic, Attitude Black, Phantom Brown, Celestite Grey Metallic, and Red Mica Metallic which is only for the 1.6L petrol engine variant.
The differences between the two engine variants include an exterior that comes with refined design, Auto BI Beam Projector LED headlamp, LED daytime running lights, LED rear lamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, smart entry that is the automatic door unlock system, an interior that provides superior comfort with state-of-the-art functions, push start, Optitron meter with 4.2″ multi information display, automatic air conditioning system, power folding mirror, electronic parking brake with brake hold function, rear air conditioning for rear-seat passengers, rear sunshade, a 10-inch Android infotainment system, and tire pressure warning system for the 1.8L petrol engine.
Meanwhile, the 1.6L petrol engine includes the 1ZR-FBE 1.6L engine and automatic Super CVT-i seven speed with sequential shift that gives you confidence in the driving performance, safety features, head up display, back guide monitor, hill-start assist control, back sonar, traction control system, vehicle stability control, anti-lock brake system, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, seven SRS Airbags, global outstanding assessment body with side door impact beams, as well as a 10-inch Android infotainment system.
