The Syariah High Court sentenced two local men in a Sariqah (theft) case – under Chapter 55 (3) (b) of the Syariah Penal Code Order, 2013 – to a month’s imprisonment.

Haji Mohammad Alfian bin Haji Mohd Zain, 47, and Mohammad Raif Rafie bin Mohammad, 19, were both sentenced after they were found guilty of stealing two tins of corned beef, three tins of baby clam and three packets of sausages.

The Sungai Liang Police Station investigated after the incident took place at Ya-Nur Trading Co in Kampong Sungai Taring between 11am to noon on January 20, 2020.

During sentencing, the Syariah High Court Judge reminded that sariqah is a serious offence prohibited by the religion and the country’s law. The offenders hold previous criminal records.

The pair were ordered to return the stolen items and compensate the owner for missing or damaged items. This is in accordance with Chapter 61 (1) & (2) Syariah Penal Code Order, 2013.
