Company fined BND200 for illegal dumping

A joint operation was carried out by the Environmental Health Division under the Department of Environmental Health Services of the Ministry of Health along with the Law Enforcement Division of the Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department recently. A compound offence was issued to a company.

Sim Kim Huat was issued a compound under Chapter 12(1)(a) for BND200 for leaving an old signage and a damaged trolley that is deemed as trash on the edge of the building premises in Kampong Manggis.

In the operation by the Law Enforcement Division of the BSB Municipal Department, it was also found that a Bangladeshi man Sayul was compounded BND100 for an offence under the Minor Offences Act Chapter 30, Section 12(1)(a) for throwing trash and cigarette butts in the vicinity of a commercial building in Kampong Anggerek Desa.

The company and individual are given seven days to settle the compound. If they fail to do so before the set date, they can be charged in court.

Offenders can be fined BND1,000 for the first offence while for the second offence a fine of BND3,000 and imprisonment not exceeding three months will be levied.

The public is advised not to dispose any trash in public places and the department welcomes any information sharing with the BSB Municipal Department.
